ERS Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Management of LAM

In January 2010, the European Respiratory Journal published clinical guidelines on LAM.  These comprehensive and practical guidelines, prepared under the auspices of the European Respiratory Society and co-chaired by Nottingham’s Simon Johnson, cover all aspects of the disease from presentation, through diagnosis, to management of the disease.

The primary purpose of the guidelines is as a resource for medical professionals, but LAM Patients should benefit from this initiative.  Guidelines like these are particularly useful for doctors working outside their usual area of expertise; given that LAM is so rare, this is almost always the case with doctors seeing LAM patients for the first time.  If you are a LAM patient, you may want to confirm that your doctor is aware of these guidelines.  If you read them yourself, please bear in mind that they were intended for a medical audience.
