2017 London Marathon

Bandhana ‘Benny’ Jakhu and Sarah Colvin are colleagues of Colin Robey in the tax team at the London Stock Exchange, and they are running in support of Colin’s wife Louise who has LAM. Benny said: “After hearing Louise’s story from Colin and then learning how extremely small a charity LAM Action is, I felt raising funds for them could make a real impact. I’m feeling quite scared about taking part in the London Marathon as I’m not a fan of running. I’m not aiming for a time – just planning to survive!” Sarah, who took part in the 2014 London Marathon, added that she had also been inspired to take part by realising the difference she could make to a small charity. Husband and wife Robert and Sally Semple are friends of former LAM Action Committee Member Helen Sabin. Although Sally is a keen runner she has not run to Marathon distance previously: “We are running for LAM Action because Helen Sabin, a sufferer is a fellow Cubbington villager. We all grew up together and still socialise.” To help support Team Semple please click here

Francesca Cook is cousin of LAM Action Co-Chair Leanne Lillywhite-Sutton, who was diagnosed with LAM in 2013. Francesca, who lives in London and works as a graphic designer – also providing the creative juice behind LAMPost – is aiming for a time of around four hours 30 minutes. “I decided to do the London Marathon for LAM Action as they are currently trying to find a cure for LAM, which my cousin Leanne has. They could potentially save her life, and they also offer ongoing support for women with LAM. Leanne carries on with life with such enthusiasm and positivity, she is an inspiration to us all. Raising money for the research means so much to me and my family.” To sponsor Francesca, please visit her fundraising page here

Maurice Lyon from Cambridge is running in the London Marathon as his wife Clare was diagnosed with the condition in 2015. “LAM Action has provided Clare with a wealth of knowledge and support since she was officially diagnosed with LAM in 2015. Clare was discovered to have LAM following complications during pregnancy with our daughter Zoe in 2009, when her lung collapsed twice. Clare has had surgery on her lungs aimed at preventing further collapses, but unfortunately her lung collapsed again recently and she had to undergo further lung surgery.” Maurice is aiming to cross the finish line in less than five hours. “I read Chris Evans’ autobiography, and he says it’s not a proper marathon unless it’s under five hours. From my training time I’d hope for between 4:15 – 4:30.” To sponsor Maurice, please visit his fundraising page here

Lucy McAteer from Hertford will be running in memory of her late sister Melissa, and will be following a family tradition as her father-in-law Darren Jones, and Darren’s sister Carrin Rhodes have previously run in the London Marathon to raise funds for LAM Action. “My sister Melissa suffered with LAM and lost her fight in December 2008, so LAM Action means a lot to me. I know how highly she regarded the care and support the charity provides. There is currently no cure and unfortunately for Melissa, her transplant did not come through in time.” Please help Lucy reach her fundraising target by clicking here

Lucas Meagor from Hull will be running his 12th London Marathon and the 2nd one for LAM Action – in his previous race in 2013 he was interviewed live on TV while wearing his Olympic Gamesmaker Uniform. This year Lucas is running as a Cream Phone Box and attempting to become the fastest marathon runner as a phone box! (Target 4hrs 33mins).” Why Cream?  I live in Kingston upon Hull and our phone boxes are coloured Cream because we have our own phone supplier – KCOM (who are sponsoring me). LAM Action support a very good friend, Alex McDonald.  Alex has been a great support to me in various ways and it’s an honour to return the favour.  The work LAM Action do is invaluable and I’m delighted to support them once again. I’ll also be at the London Expo all week on the RB Hull Marathon stand – be great to meet anyone down supporting the LAM Action Team!” If you would like to help Lucas reach his fundraising target please click here

A huge and heartfelt thank you to all of our runners from LAM Action and the LAM Community – good luck and see you at the finish line!
